Economic decision models for climate adaption
[2008-07-04]
In a new report by the Swedish Defence Research Agency, Elin Kågebro and Maria Vredin Johansson describe various economic tools that can be used as a basis for decisions regarding climate adaptation.
“With regard to measures that have a lifetime of more than twenty-five years and investments that are sensitive to climate extremes, we believe that the models contained in the report can facilitate the task of decision-making,” says Maria Vredin Johansson.
The report (Economic decision models for climate adaptation) describes the most common decision models: cost-benefit analysis (CBA), cost-effectiveness analysis (CEA) and multicriteria analysis (MCA). The idea is that adapting to climate change can, in many cases, take place gradually and voluntarily – but that in situations where the need for short- and long-term planning is great, economic decision models are of help.
