Asia Security Studies

Asia faces many challenges and problems. The Asia Security Studies Programme at FOI conducts research and policy-relevant analysis on defence and security related issues in Asia with national, regional and global implications. The primary focus of the programme is on East and South Asia, as well as the Persian Gulf region.

Issues studied within the programme include:

• The Korean peninsula and the DPRK nuclear issue
• Grand Strategy in the Asia Pacific Rim; China-US-Japan relations
• China's global presence and impact 
• India - Pakistan relations
• Pakistan's political and ideological framgentation; the Civil War 
• The Pakistan - Afghanistan complex
• Iran's regional ambitions and the nuclear controversy
