Security, Safety and Vulnerability Analysis
The role of the Armed Forces continues to develop and the system of crisis management is changing. At the same time, questions of defence and security are becoming increasingly internationalised.
The resolution of these questions calls for careful analysis and strategic planning.
FOI’s work includes the production of analyses and policy papers providing the basis for decision-making in the areas of security, safety and vulnerability analysis.
FOI provides decision-making support in matters concerning both the development of threats assessment and complex national systems such as defence planning, security and emergency planning as well as problems associated with environmental and resource planning. The work is about problem formulation, support for processes of strategic change and methods for the assessment of alternative courses of action. The work makes use of our competencies in such areas as technical systems, security and defence policy, international operations, crisis management, assessment of defence capabilities, acquisition and support of materiel, environmental strategy studies, problem structuring and scenario methodology.
The largest customers are the Swedish Government Offices (Ministry of Defence) and the Swedish Emergency Management Agency. Other assignments are carried out for a variety of civil agencies including the Swedish Energy Agency, the Agency for Innovation Systems, VINNOVA and the Environmental Protection Agency.
