Strike and Protection
Armed conflict is seldom limited to the extent that it does not pose a threat to the civil community.
In this programme area we work to find military solutions for strike and protection, the fundamental facets of all armed conflict. Work in this area also makes a valuable contribution towards reducing the vulnerability of civil society.
FOI carries out research in such areas of weapon technology as launch, propulsion, guidance, navigation, target acquisition and homing, warheads and explosives technology. This enables graduated weapon effects to be achieved both above and below water. Protection research covers traditional and new techniques for the adaptive protection of individuals, platforms and installations.
FOI works both theoretically and experimentally to meet our customers’ needs over a broad spectrum ranging from fundamental technology to systems problems. We possess a unique body of competence in the testing and safety of munitions and in the evaluation of munitions, weapon systems and protection solutions. Other areas in which FOI can offer support include mine clearance operations, risk analysis, accident investigation and the development of concepts for protection against fire, accidents and terrorist actions.
Our principal customers are the Swedish Armed Forces and the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration. Assignments are carried out for a wide range of other customers including the Swedish Rescue Services Agency, local authorities and industry.
