Electronic Warfare
There are many potential threats to the command and control and sensor systems used by the Swedish Armed Forces and by civil organisations. One example is the risk of electronic disruption.
FOI possesses a comprehensive arsenal of models for simulation and evaluation of the electronic warfare duel.
The work conducted in this programme area includes training as well as theoretical and experimental research in such fields as radio, radar, lasers, infrared (IR), high power microwave (HPM) technology and signature reduction (stealth). For example we are working on threats in the form of electronic disruption (jamming) and ways in which electronic warfare techniques can improve security and effectiveness.
We make use of simulations and trials together with various electronic warfare methods. FOI has developed techniques which make it possible to plan for an effective, secure and tactically sound operation, for example when participating in international missions. We can also offer our customers vulnerability analyses and the development of protective measures, for example against terrorist actions. Another example of an area in which we are working is the threat to transport aircraft posed by man-portable IR missiles.
Our largest customers are the Swedish Armed Forces and the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration. Our assignments include improved protection for personnel and equipment through the development of warning and countermeasure systems.
