Research

The research area covered by the FOCUS Centre can be divided into two main sub-areas; Advanced Sensors and Multisensors and Sensor Networks.

The research projects launched within the framework of the centre will typically fall within the scope of one of these areas. However, a multidisciplinary approach is often needed to assure the industrial relevance of the results.

Research projects within FOCUS:

Remote thermography

The project will investigate and implement methodology, techniques and exploitation of electro-optical sensors for airborne resource surveys with automated acquisition and analysis of data.

Ground sensor surveillance systems

The purpose is to develop novel algorithms to improve detection, classification, and localization of persons and vehicles when using a ground sensor network with microphones, geophones and cameras.

New techniques and antennas for penetrating radar systems

The purpose is to develop new radar techniques and antennas with cost effectiveness in mind for see-through and see-into sensors such as wall-penetrating and ground-penetrating systems.

Learning of multiple camera configurations

The objective of the project is to develop algorithms that will simplify the deployment and calibration of video cameras for surveillance applications.

Micro Doppler Analysis for Area Control - muDAC

The goal is to detect and classify e. g. unauthorized persons and vehicles in a protected zone by utilizing the Doppler information created by movements of parts of the target.

MMIC Radiometers

The purpose of this project is to support the development of subsystems and circuits that can be used in for example satellite based earth observation systems.

Food Safety

This project will study novel signal processing techniques for on-line detection of sparsely occurring events. i.e. detection of foreign objects within the food-product.

Video Analytics

The purpose is to develop algorithms for analysis of video for surveillance applications where a network of non-overlapping cameras covers an area where persons and other objects move around.

Sub-mm imaging of faces – phenomenology and possibilities

The use of imaging RF sensors for face recognition is a novel area of research, and the possibility to identify persons through masks has not yet been investigated.

Förändring & Genus i FOCUS

Under våren 2009 startade projektet förändring & Genus i FOCUS, ett treårigt projekt finansierat av Vinnova.
