Research

The research area covered by the FOCUS Centre can be divided into two main sub-areas; Advanced Sensors and Multisensors and Sensor Networks.

The research projects launched within the framework of the centre will typically fall within the scope of one of these areas. However, a multidisciplinary approach is often needed to assure the industrial relevance of the results.

Research projects within FOCUS:

Intelligent Surveillance

Surveillance systems of today are not pro-active, in the sense that they almost exclusively collect data without analyzing it.

Control of Sparse Sensor Resources in Surveillance Scenarios

In the future, surveillance sensors like radars, laser, IR and visual cameras, acoustical and seismic sensors are more and more adaptable to situation.

Area Control by Networks of Ground Sensors with Widely Different Scope

Within this project, we will develop robust methods for data fusion in a network of ground sensors with different scope, such as microphones, magnetometers and accelerometers.

Food Safety

Within the food industry there is a big demand for systems detecting and rejecting foreign and unwanted objects in food. Security reasons, harder legislation, as well as economical incitements are all pushing the development of suitable technologies.

MMIC Radiometers

New satellite based earth observation missions containing radiometers in the mm-wave frequency region for environmental studies and weather forecasts are currently under development.

Naval Radar

Better detection of small vessels under all weather conditions, improved sea clutter suppression, clearer radar pictures and better integration of radar pictures with other information are some key features for increasing naval safety in the future.

RF sensor for face recognition behind masks

The use of camera based surveillance systems have despite the requirements on integrity preservation become more widespread during the last years.

Förändring & Genus i FOCUS

Under våren 2009 startade projektet förändring & Genus i FOCUS, ett treårigt projekt finansierat av Vinnova.
