Structural Mechanics

The main field within the research area of structural mechanics is the development of computational tools with special emphasis on nonlinear large scale analysis of damaged metal and composite structures.

The work is mainly performed using the in-house developed hp-adaptive code STRIPE. By applying innovative computational techniques for statistical analyses of 3D crack growth and residual strength, damage tolerance evaluation of large structures can be performed.

The work is partially financed by, and performed in cooperation with USAF. Advanced experimental work, to support the mathematical models used, is carried out in the structural laboratory. Experimental research within the structures field is related to structural dynamics, fatigue and fracture, and composite mechanics.
