Risk and Vulnerability Analyses Lead to Better Safety Work

People are injured and property is damaged every day. Accidents and other harmful events sometimes are so extensive that they may even lead to a national crisis. These events also affect companies and organisations in various ways.

In order to be better prepared when something happens it is necessary to have better knowledge about what threats and risks that exist within an enterprise, and where the vulnerability lies. Today it is a requirement of Swedish law that authorities and municipalities must carry out risk and vulnerability analyses. It should be a matter of course even for other organisations and companies to carry out the necessary analyses as part of a systematic safety work.

FOI has also been commissioned to carry out analyses within the telecommunications and media sectors. We have also supported companies such as Bromma Center and the mining company LKAB in Kiruna. Within the local government sector we have studied the consequences for households and population when there are longer power failures, and looked at risks within specific regions and extraordinary events. This is of course just a small selection from the assignments we have had over the years.

At FOI we carry out risk and vulnerability analyses on a consultancy basis. We have accumulated extensive experience in this field over many years of research and method development work.

We carry out everything from in-depth analyses where we take care of everything, to limited efforts where we can act as experts and advisers in your own analysis work.

Our line of work covers everything from individual technical systems and activities to national infrastructures and sectors of society. We have vast experience of the threat scale in its entirety – from daily accidents to national crises and military conflicts.

We help you in the manner that is most suitable for you. Contact us for a joint review of the steps that a systematic safety work procedure consists of.
