Combat Simulation
The restructuring of the Swedish Armed Forces with the emphasis on new taskforce units calls for personnel with the highest levels of professional skill. It also calls for a rational development and evaluation of new materiel.
Operational simulation facilities for the Swedish Air Force are playing an increasingly important role in FOI’s overall support for the Swedish Armed Forces.
Through the Swedish Air Force Combat Simulation Centre, the Combat Simulation Division of FOI, the agency has since 1998 been working with The Swedish Air Force to provide operational simulation facilities. This means more cost-effective training and the ability to provide training for both pilots and fighter controllers as well as command team and staff personnel.
Simulation based acquisition (SBA) is another important area of activity. This provides a rational method for the development and evaluation of the tactical requirements for new aircraft systems by making the systems available to users at an early stage in a simulated environment.
The simulation facilities are unique in Europe in providing a combination of man-in-the-loop simulators and computer-generated combat forces. Powerful visual tools are used in the presentation of information and results. We can also offer large scale simulations through link-ups with similar facilities around the world.
Our principal customers are the Swedish Armed Forces but other customers, including international clients, also make use of the Centre’s facilities. We are able to provide customised exercises, studies and training to meet each customer’s individual needs.
