Lecture Series

Through a joint collaboration, FOI Studies in African Security and the Nordic Africa Institute (NAI) are conducting a lecture series around 'African Security'. Each lecture combines a core theme in African security studies with case studies from contemporary Africa. The joint lecture series is a central feature of the FOI-NAI partnership.

The aim of the lecture series is to increase knowledge about factors influencing contemporary conflicts in Africa. The primary target audience is the analysts and researchers at FOI and NAI. An additional aim with the course is to facilitate networks and contacts across the various national institutions involved in Africa-related policy and research. To this end, the lecture series is open to a select number of participants from the Swedish International Development Agency (Sida), the Ministries for Foreign Affairs and Defence, the Swedish Rescue Services Agency, the Swedish Armed Forces, the National Defence College, and the Folke Bernadotte Academy.

Excerpts from the lecture series are available below:

Some forthcoming lectures:

  • African regional and sub-regional structures, and foreign interests affecting conflicts
  • Arms Proliferation, Transnational Risks, and Regional Security in Africa
