Experts

A core group of regional as well as thematic experts work with the Asia Security Studies programme. The programme also consults expertise from other FOI Divisions, at other Swedish think tanks and internationally.


John Rydqvist, Project manager
John Rydqvist is a specialist in WMD strategy and Asian security. His research includes the dynamics of the strategic balance in East Asia and the Pacific theatre, strategic weapons modernization and force transformation in key regional and global powers.

Magnus Normark, Analyst
Magnus Normark is a specialist in non- and counter proliferation and disarmament. His research includes threat assessment of Weapons of mass destruction and terrorism.

Stefan Olsson, Ph.D.
Stefan is a political scientist with interest in the information war in Afghanistan between the Taliban and ISAF/Nato. Stefan also works with issues concerning crisis management in the European Union. Previously he was an assistant professor at Uppsala University.


Alexander Atarodi, Analyst
Alexander is a specialist in Middle Eastern security. His research includes interstates relations in Middle East and Gulf region and energy security.

Roland Heickerö, Deputy Research Director, Ph.D.
Roland manages several projects at FOI in the area of information assurance, cyber warfare and terrorism on the Internet. Before joining FOI he worked as program manager and senior product manager in the wireless telecom industry for Ericsson Radio Systems and Telia Mobile, formerly PTT. He has also hold a position for six years as adjunct professor in innovation technology at University of Mälardalen. Roland has a PhD in Industrial Economy and Organizations/Work Science as well as MSc in Mechanical Engineering both from Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. 

Jerker Hellström, Analyst
Jerker is a specialist in East Asian security, with a focus on China. His research includes Chinese foreign, security and defence policy; EU-China relations; and China's role in Africa. Jerker has studied and worked in China for several years, most recently as a correspondent at Reuters Shanghai bureau.
