Experts
The following experts with different backgrounds and areas of expertise are involved in the Russia project (RUFS) during 2010. Most of the participants speak Russian:
Carolina Vendil Pallin, Project Manager, Deputy Research Director, Ph.D. Carolina is a political scientist. She defended her doctoral thesis at the London School of
Economics (LSE). Carolina covers Russian domestic policy with a particularly
focusing on security policy decision-making, Russian military reform and
security services, as well as Russia's relations with the EU.
Jakob Hedenskog, Deputy Research Director, Project manager, M.A.
Jakob is a Slavist and political scientist. He covers Russian foreign policy and the countries in the CIS area (in particular, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine). From 1 September 2009 to 30 June 2010, Jakob is Visiting Fellow at the Centre for European, Russian and Eurasian Studies (CERES) at Munk Centre for International Studies, University of Toronto, Kanada.
Roland Heickerö, Deputy Research Director, Ph.D.
Roland defended his doctoral thesis at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Department of Industrial Economics and Management/Operations Management and Industrial Ergonomics, located in Stockholm. He works thematically with issues having to do with information warfare (IW) and information operations (IO).
Susanne Oxenstierna, Senior Researcher, Ph.D.
Susanne got her Ph.D. in economics at Stockholm University in 1991. She has worked with public sector reform in Russia and other EE countries during the last 15 years. Susanne's present research topics centres on developments in the Russian economy, defence economy and energy sector.
Roger Roffey, Analyst, Master of Engineering in Chemistry/Biotechnology from KTH Royal Institute of Technology and political scientist SU/UU. Roger is an expert on non-proliferation issues; particularly the Russian biological weapons programme/bio protection activities, as well as Russian R&D activities in the area of biotechnology. He also works with terrorism and environmental safety issues.
Fredrik Westerlund, Researcher, B.A. in both Law and Political Science. Fredrik focuses on Russia and security policy and is our expert on Russian military, the Russian military industrial complex and R&D. He also works with nuclear weapon and arms control issues, focusing on Russia.
Markus Ekström, Research Assistant, BSc.
Markus is a political scientist and graduated from Stockholm University. Markus’s area of expertise is Russian military exercise activities.
