Seminars and conferences

On 15 November 2011 a seminar in collaboration with UI was held about the coming Russian parliamentary elections. Speaker was Yevgeniya Albats, Chief Editor of "The New Times" and Professor at Higher School of Economics, Moscow (see programme). Read a summary of the seminar here.
On 17 August 2011 Carolina Vendil Pallin was key note speaker at the conference "Russia after the Soviet Empire at Lund University. The topic for the presentation was: "The Russian Military and Russia after the Soviet Empire". Conference Programme.
On 8 June 2011 Jakob Hedenskog presented his chapter on the situation in the North Caucasus and Russia's concerns about terrorist threats against the Olympics in Sochi in 2014 during the launch of the Strategic Outlook 2011 at Medelhavsmuseet.
On 27 April 2011 Carolina Vendil Pallin participated in the seminar "Russian social climate of change?" at the Swedish Institute of International Affairs. The seminar was held on the occasion of Prime Minister Vladimir Putin's visit to Sweden.
On 15 April 2011 Susanne Oxenstierna together with Annika Carlsson-Kanyama, head of research projects on climate and energy adjustment, organized a seminar at FOI on "The Transformation of the Russian Energy Sector" with the participation of Professor Veli-Pekka Tynkkynen, Helsinki University, and Dr. Alexei Gromov, Insitute of Energy Strategy in Moscow. On 24 February 2011 Susanne Oxenstierna participated at Pax Nordica in Umeå with a lecture on Russian defence economy.
On 17 February 2011 Susanne Oxenstierna held a lecture at the Graduate School of Management, St. Petersburg State University, Russia, on Russian Nuclear Energy Expansion.

On 24 November 2010 Susanne Oxenstierna participated with a presentation about Russia's nuclear development at "Baltic World's Annual Round Table" on energy around the Baltic Sea, arranged by the Center for Baltic European Studies at Södertörns University College.
On 11 November 2010 Jakob Hedenskog participated as speaker in a seminar, "Perspectives on Elections. Ukraine" at Uppsala Centre for Russian Studies (UCRS), Uppsala University. Other speakers were Mykola Ryabchuk and Sergei Bozhko, both UCRS.
On 4 November 2010 Jakob Hedenskog held a lecture on the theme "Belarus and Russia – an uncomfortable relationship" at SIDA within the framework of preparation course of the election observation mission for the Presidential election in Belarus.
On 3 November 2010 Jakob Hedenskog held a lecture on the theme "Regional Cooperation in the Black Sea Region" at the Swedish Institute of International Affairs (SIIA).
On 3 November 2010 Carolina Vendil Pallin commented on Russia's relations with European security at Folk och Försvar (Society and Defence).
On 27-29 October 2010 Susanne Oxenstierna particpated in the International Conference "Fuelling the Future? Asessing Russia's Role in Euroasia's Energy Complex" at Aleksanteri Institute, Helsinki University, with a paper on Russian energy and nuclear power.
On 28 October 2010 Jakob Hedenskog presented his new report "Naval Strategies in the Black Sea Region" at the Ministry of Defence.
On 21 October 2010 Fredrik Westerlund particpated as speaker at a seminar, "The X Annual Russia Seminar: 'Nuclear Weapons in Russian Policy', at the National Defence University, Helsinki, Finland (Department of Strategic and Defence Studies)". Fredrik's lecture had the title "The role of nuclear weapons in Russia’s foreign and security policy".
On 20 October 2010 Jakob Hedenskog held a lecture on the theme "Moldova/Transnistria – squashed between the EU och Russia?" at SIDA within the framework of preparation course of the election observation mission for the Parliamentary elections in Moldova.
On 4-5 October 2010 an international conference on Russian Military Development was held in Stockholm and attracted international leading experts on Russian security policy. The conference was organised by the Swedish Defence Research Agency (FOI) and the Swedish National Defence College (FHS). The major aim of the conference was to assess Russia’s efforts to rebuild its military strength and the consequences of this to Russian society, to Europe and to the world. Read more.
On Tuesday 4 May, 2010 a seminar will be held on "Challenges for Russia and the Nordic countries in the Arctic and Barents Sea region". The seminar is organized jointly by FOI, UI - The Swedish Institute of International Affairs and Norden i Fokus.
On Friday 16 April, 2010, Jakob Hedenskog presented his paper "The Ukrainian Law-Enforcement Agencies – Political and Regional Preferences in Times of Uncertianty" at the 15th Annual World Convention for the Association for the Study of Nationalities (ASN), Columbia University, N.Y.C., U.S.A.
On Thursday 8 April, 2010, Jakob Hedenskog participated as a speaker in an International Colloquium held at the Centre for European, Russian and Eurasian Studies, the Munk Centre for International Studies, University of Toronto on the theme "The New Agenda of Russian-Ukrainian Relations in the Global Context.
On Wednesday 31 March, 2010, Jakob Hedenskog held a lecture at the Munk Centre for International Studies, University of Toronto on the theme of Security Interests in the Black Sea Region.
On Sunday 28 February 2010 Jakob Hedenskog held a lecture at the St. Vladimir Institute, Toronto, Canada on the theme of Ukraine's interests in the Black Sea Region.
On Wednesday 24 February 2010 a roundtable discussion was held on theme of the 2010 Ukrainian Presidential elections at the Centre for European, Russian and Eurasian Studies at University of Toronto, in which Jakob Hedenskog participated. Read more.
On Thursday 28 January 2010 a seminar was held on the theme of Mass Media and Modern Warfare - Reporting on the Russian War on Terrorism within the RUFS project. Lecturer was Greg Simons, senior researcher at the National Research Centre of Crisis Management Research and Training (Crismart) at the Swedish National Defence College. Simons is also guest researcher at the Department of Eurasian Studies at Uppsala University and lecturer at the Department of Communication Science at Turiba University in Riga, Latvia.
On Monday 23 November 2009 a seminar was held on the theme of Russian Economy and Defense: Sobering Up After the Crash within the RUFS project. Guest lecturer was Professor of Economics Steven Rosefielde (University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, USA) who is also an expert on Russia.
On Wednesday, 11 November 2009 a seminar on the theme of NATO, the EU and the Nordic Region - Secure solidarity? was held at the Institute of Finland in Stockholm, in which Fredrik Westerlund participated.
On Monday, 11 May 2009 a seminar was held on theme In the borderland of the EU and Russia regarding Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova. Our expert Jakob Hedenskog participated as speaker. The seminar was organised by the Olof Palme International Centre and the OSCE-network.
On Thursday, 16 April 2009 a seminar was held within the RUFS project on the theme of Big business and the economic crisis in Russia: Oligarchs and Siloviki. Professor Stephen Fortescue (University of New South Wales, Australia), currently guest researcher at the Stockholm School of Economics’ Institute of Transition Economics (SITE), attended as lecturer.
On Monday, 9 March 2009 a seminar was held within the RUFS project on the theme of The Global economic crisis and Russia: Consequences especially for the military sector. Guest lecturer was Professor of Economics Steven Rosefielde (University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, USA) who is also an expert on Russia.
