FOI can give its clients access to some of Europe’s most modern and most well-equipped laboratories and resources for research on and tests of among other things extremely hazardous matter. FOI also gives its clients access to its very qualified experts.
The laboratory for highly toxic elements
FOI has one of Europe’s most complete, safe and modern laboratories for very hazardous, highly toxic elements. The laboratory consists of four units that are specialized and equipped for their respective fields of research.

The aerosol chamber
FOI’s aerosol chamber is used for detection experiments regarding simulants, low pathogenic biological aerosols and chemicals. The experiments are always carried out under controlled conditions.

The safety laboratory
In the safety laboratory FOI can handle hazardous infectious matters up to safety level class III, which is substances that can be used for bioterrorism. The laboratory has two separate units to prevent cotamination between different experiments.

The toxin laboratory at FOI’s Division of CBRN Defence and Security* has been specially designed to handle toxins and toxin peptides.

The isotope laboratory
The laboratory is licensed by the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority for the handling of radioactive sources and can be used for handling open radiation sources with alpha-, beta- and gamma-radiating nuclides.
