Production of bioactive or toxic substances

FOI has one of Europe’s most complete, safe and modern laboratories for the handling of highly toxic elements. The air and soil water from the unit is purified using the best system on the market. Access to these units is very limited and the staff is used to confidential work. The synthesis laboratory is Sweden’s only unit for the manufacturing of chemical weapons. Here very extremely toxic substances can be manufactured or handled in a small scale, such as for example so called ”lead compounds” for medical research. The FOI researcher group – with experienced organic chemists – can develop methods for both the creation of new substances and for production of large amounts of known substances.
All manufactured substances are packed and characterised under full product control before delivery. The work and deliveries are subjected to commercial secrecy.
