Peace Support Operations Project
The Peace Support Operations project, commissioned by the Swedish Ministry of Defence, studies peace support operations with a particular focus on the military engagement of Sweden. The project conducts studies concerning current events and trends which shape ongoing and future operations. To reflect the growing complexity facing the international community in crisis management around the world, the project has its base in a broad concept of security. |

The aim is to create a comprehensive view of peace support operations. This means that our studies of military operations also cover additional aspects of the operational environment such as the links between environment and security or economic consequences of international operations in conflict affected states. Security Sector Reform (SSR), civil-military cooperation and gender aspects are other examples of areas studied within the project.
The project provides the Ministry of Defence with support in streamlining the preparations and planning preceding international operations. Even if each operation is unique it is important to take advantage of lessons learned from other operations. The project’s researchers continuously conduct assessment of ongoing and completed operations to gather experiences to contribute to better, more effective, operations in the future.
Beyond studies, the project also provides analytical support to the daily work of the Swedish Ministry of Defence. In short, the Peace Support Operations project provides both comprehensive long term research and close day-to-day support in ongoing policy processes.
