Climate Change and Security in Africa
The project Climate Change, Natural Resource Governance and Conflict Prevention in Africa is a joint collaboration between FOI, Global Crisis Solutions (GCS) and Uppsala University. It is financed by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and spans two years, starting from May 2010.
Focus is on potential crisis areas in Southern Africa in the region along the Zambezi River. Early warning is at the heart of the project, with the aim to deepen knowledge and improve capacities for preventing and solving conflicts linked to climate change. The project involves research and analysis as well as the development and training of a local network of African civil society organisations. International policy advocacy to increase attention on related issues is a key part of the work.
