The geopolitical and societal development in the Nordic and Baltic regions is of great importance to Swedish security policy and its development. Within the NOTS project Nordic and Baltic security, its developments and challenges are studied from a military and a non-military perspective. The military area focuses on the security- and defence policy, defence planning and military capability of the individual nations and the region as a whole. Among the non-military issues being studied are primarily energy policy, social development, and information warfare. The studies should be conducted to ensure comparability over time and across geographic areas and themes. The geographic focus is on the Nordic countries, the Baltics States and Poland, but also relevant neighbouring areas such as Germany, Russia and the Arctic. In addition, thematically focused studies can be undertaken in order to include transatlantic relations and NATO–policies relevant to security in the region.
