This report reviews the International Symposium on Mechanically Alloyed and Metastable Nanocrystalline Materials held at the University of Oxford, England, in July 2000. A number of contributions, especially relevant (to the author´s organisation) are summarised under the titles: functional materials and structural materials. Techniques for production of nanocrystalline materials are very briefly discussed, as are applications for such materials.
