Abstract
Since it was founded in 1953, Nammo LIAB AB has been producing explosives at Hermanstorp 7:1 in Lindesberg. Continuous development and alteration of the activity of the company has been made and today approximately 70 buildings for different purposes are present at the premises. The company converts artillery ammunition to ammunition for civil purposes, produces new ammunition and ammunition details. Gunpowder is also reused if the quality is sufficient. Otherwise it is destructed at a special dumpsite, as are trotyl residues and waste contaminated with explosives. Previously, ammunition was also renovated and in the renovating process trotyl (TNT) was melted using water steam. The regained trotyl was ground and thereafter reused and sold. On behalf of Nammo LIAB AB, the Swedish Defence Research Agency has performed an environmental risk assessment of the industrial site. The risk assessment has been perfored in accordance with the Swedish EPA method MIFO. This report covers the introductory phase of the project. The results show that further investigations, including sampling and chemical analysis need to be performed in order to find out what environmental impact the explosive production activity has had on the site.
