Abstract
Last year FOI (previously FOA) were given the task to suggest to the Swedish Armed Forces a criterium for premissible exposure to impulse sound, i.e. noise from weapons. During a "workshop" with international expertise at the end of October 2000 this matter was discussed. It is proposed that the ISO 1999 internationally standardised evaluation scheme should be used with the limit value 85 dB. In order to account for hearing protection the ISO 4869 internationally standardised evaluation scheme, usually called REAT, should be used (an almost identical European standard EN 352 is an alternative). For the future it is recommended that research concerning so called ATF (models of the human head) should be carried out, since such models can be exposed to arbitrary great impulse noise.
