When simulating projectiles hitting an electric armour a current pulse is transported through, metallic rods made of Tungsten in a matrix of Nickel and Iron. After the test the rods are collected for a microstructural investigation in a light optical microscope. These investigations have showed that cracks may appear in the centre of the rods interior. Some rods showed no cracks in their interior, but were instead clompletely fractured. The fracture surface was in these cases studied in a scanning electron microscope. This report contains information on how to prepare the samples for the microstructural investigation and shows some of the features encountered.
