Abstract

What missile defence technology is being introduced in Asia? Which underlying factors have had an impact on its emergence? What is the impact on political and military structures? What is the impact on the politics of the great powers - and Europe? Most of the missile defence development is being planned for and to a certain extent developed in the area of the Western Pacific. Asia´s strategic importance is growing. In the field of missile defence, the technical development has been more rapid and in certain areas more advanced than in Europe. By their bases and own BMD resources, the value of the allies for the strategic planning of the USA is increasing. Nations without a sufficiently clear policy are being drawn into the patterns, which are not of their own design. Russia is struggling to find its new identity between Asia and Europe after the end of the cold war, especially in the field of missile defence. The missile defence in Asia has an impact on policy making in the USA and Russia and thereby also on the interests of Europe. Europe will not escape being drawn into arguments between the USA, China and Russia about missile defence.
