Abstract
The purpose of the study was to create a basic report concerning if game- and entertainment technology in support for training and education could be an interesting research area. The background was a project proposal with the name "Game- and Entertainment technology in support for advanced distributed training", that was send to FOls independent research council. The proposal was considered to be relevant and therefore received funds to continue the preparation of a basic report. The report begins with a description of how game- and entertainment technology today are used in different defense forces, mainly USA and DoD, but also in civilian areas. Then are some suggestions made of how this technology can be used within the Swedish Armed Forces and which prototypes that could be developed, which is followed by a discussion concerning evaluation and comparison between game- and entertainment technology and existing technology for training and education performed. Finally, are some made of which kind of training, education and research that is possible to perform with this type of consumer technology.
