Abstract

The project "Buildings and EnergySystems in Sustainable Society - BESUS", aims at finding new and resource efficient solutions of the energy systems of buildings in line with sustainable development. These solutions will be identified through the interaction between lifestyles and behaviour and the utilisation of buildings and its equipment. A number of images of the future, for 2050, will be outlined. The aim of this report is to describe the existing stock of dwelling buildings, multi-dwelling buildings and one- and two-dwelling buildings, and to make an assessment of the renewal of the stock of dwellings. The aim is also to calculate the total and specific energy use of the stock of dwellings for 2050, chiefly for heating and hot water but also for electricity for household purpose. The calculations will be used as input for an image of the future that can be seen as a reference alternative. The existing stock of dwelling buildings are described as the number of dwellings and heated area for different years of completion. The renewal of the stock - demolition, renovation and new construction - are discussed and assessed. Total and specific energy use in the existing stock with regard to demolition are calculated. More efficient use of energy in the existing stock with regard to renovation is calculated for four different cases. The energy use for new construction are for short-term based on todays building regulations and for a long-term on future goals from Swedish authorities.
