Abstract

This report presents a multistart technique version of an inverse electromagnetic propagation computer program. The program calculates conductivities and layer depths in a horizontally stratified environment. The problem is formulated as a nonlinear least-squares problem, and to obtain a good solution a quasi-global optimisation technique is implemented. A local method is used combined with a multistart technique, so several solutions are obtained and the best solution may then be chosen. The program is then used to analyse some synthetic and some measured data.
