Abstract

Understanding long rod projectile interaction with oblique stationary or moving plates is important since most ballistic armours contain components of this type. This can be exemplified by spaced armour, reactive armour and sensor-activated armour using plates as the hard-kill component. To enable well-controlled studies of the interaction process, an experimental method using the reverse impact technique and a Lagrangian transformation of the experimental set-up has been developed. In the report, this method is described and some of the problems associated with the development are accounted for. Realised and planned experiments are described as are numerical simulations done in this context.
