Abstract

During the spring of 2002 an assessment of laser weapons and protection was conducted. The scope of the study was to describe technical systems and create scenarios in which the systems contributed to the outcome. To generate the scenarios morphlogical analysis was used. The scenarios were prioritised and an assessment of Swedish capability was made for the most interesting scenarios. After the assessment an analysis was made which led to a few thematic scenarios of special interest to laser weapons and protection. The use of laser becoming more and more common, both in the military and the civil society. Laser as a weapon against humans has been this study´s main interest. Not only designated systems pose a threat but also simpler systems can be used in a malicious way. Systems such as, laser range finders or simple laser flash lights, can be used to harm peoples vision.
