Abstract

There is no information available in the open literature on the behaviour of telescopic projectiles in armour exerting transverse forces on the projectile like e.g. oblique plates and reactive armour. To assess the penetration performance of a telescopic projectile in this type of armour, reverse impact experiments with telescopic projectiles have been started. The target was either a stationary or a moving (counter flying) oblique plate. Due to strong effects on the residual projectile in the plane perpendicular to the plane in which the transverse forces act, the test series was halted after a few experiments. Possible actions to overcome this problem are discussed. The experiments carried out so far are compared to numerical simulations of similar cased reported earlier.
