Abstract

This study has been produced at the request of MUST (the Swedish Military Intelligence and Security Service), and aims to provide a preliminary situation report concerning potential health risks and environmental risks for personnel deployed to Iraq. The emphasis in the study is on EIHH (Environmental and Industrial Health Hazards), NBC risks and sanitary issues. Epidemiological issues have been handled by SMI (The Swedish Institute for Infectious Disease Control). Some short comments on the situation on mines/unexploded ordnance are given, which have been approved by SWEDEC. This report represents a preliminary (March 2003) Health Risk Assessment and data at this stage might be lacking or not fully evaluated. Information will be updated on a regular basis and risk assessments might be modified as requested when events unfold. When printing this report no data were yet available from ongoing war 2003, an update will be performed.
