Abstract
The report consists of three sections: Section 1: Participant description. Section 2. A case Study. Section 3: General Conclusions and Recommendations. The purpose of Section 1 is to present a participant description of working as an Operational Analyst in Swedish Defence force Studies during the period 1999-2001. It also considers the methods and processes involved. Part 2 consists of a case study which was carried out within the program for Quantitative and Qualitative Operational Research Methods. Part 3 is a summary of the conclusions drawn. A military operational research study is a dynamic process of knowledge creation, in which it is important to utilize the study group in question in an efficient manner. The challenge of OR is to find a suitable balance between subject matter, method and group work processes. In our opinion, FOI needs to increase its capacity to support the Swedish Armed Forces with competent research and study personnel, who can develop and facilitate the process of knowledge creation. We need to develop a common language based upon a sound scientific approach. With "sound scientific approach" we mean a well-thought-out concept about how relevant knowledge can be gained concerning the problem complex at hand - given the preconditions available - and "traceability", such that the results obtained can be properly scrutinized.
