Abstract
The report presents results and activities obtained in the project Advanced radar absorbers during the years 2001-2003. The goal of the project has been to develop and characterise materials and structures for signature control (low observabels), in the microwave region, of vehicles and other platforms of the Swedish Armed Forces. The project has focused on materials for high temperature applications, broadband absorbers, nano-composite absorbers and radar absorbing windows. The project has also focused on measurement techniques for material characterisation on microwave and mm-wave bands (0.04 - 40 GHz for wave-guide measurements and 2 - 240 GHz for free space measurements). Various materials such as polymer composites, nano-composites and resistive sheets has been studied and characterised. New optimisation methods for radar absorbing structures, based on genetik methods, has been developed. Calculation on bistatic radar cross section of simple shaped objects covered with a radar absorbing surface coating has been carried out and the result shows that for bistatic angles larger then 120° the effect of coating is negligible.
