Abstract
A field trial has been performed in order to study how an armoured personnel carrier, XA-180, gets contaminated when driving along a road contaminated with radioactivity. The trial was done during winter conditions with Na-24 as the radioactive substance on a road in a fenced-in area at the National NBC Defence Centre in Umeå. After driving various numbers of laps along the contaminated road, samples were taken at pre-defined places on the vehicle and the contamination was calcualted. A comparison between measured dose rates in the area and dose rated caculated by MCNP simulation is made. The comparison shows a good correspondence. The trial was the fifth in a series with the purpose to evaluate how vehicles get contaminated and which doses this contamination gives to the personnel. The trial was made in cooperation with the Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC).
