Abstract
It is reported on the efforts in formulating LOVA propellants based on FOX-7 and the characterisation of its burning properties as well as improvements of different properties as the flame conductance, of propellants adapted for the ETC-concept conducting flame (CF) that is investigated at FOI. Work is in progress on determining the burning equations and the temperature dependence of the burning rate for a gun propellant formulation based on FOX-7 denoted FOF-4 as well as on determining the importance of particle size of FOX-7 on the burning properties. A propellant with a very high burning rate (VHBR) has been prepared and is subjected to be used in progressive propellants where it is supposed to be combined with propellants with normal burning rates. The composite propellants that have been used previously in the CF-experiments have been shown to give a too low flame conductance. A composite propellants with 4% aluminium added has been prepared to increase flame conductance and its burning properties has been characterized. A literature survey has been performed in order to search for other suitable substances for archieving an increased flame conductance.
