Abstract
It is today possible to use 3D presentations in airplanes and in MOUT situations, but the main question is if the new possibility helps soldiers in the field. In the choice between 2D and 3D, it is necessary to take into account the operators assignment and the working surrounding. Of course, the situation is very different between a fighter pilot and a member of a staff in a command and control situation. If the assignment is to get an overall situational awareness the choice will probably be 3D, but if the assignment is metric estimation, the choice will be a 2D presentation. It is necessary to take both technical and human abilities and limitations into account when building or updating a system.
