Abstract

FOI, Division of NBC Defence has performed deep environmental investigations at the Tudor AB facility in Nol, considering contamination of lead, petroleum products and trichoroethylene. The investigations concerning oil and trichloroethylene have been performed by Johan Helldén AB. The aim was to supplement former investigations and present basic data for decision making on how to remediate the area in an economically realistic and environmentally good way. It is not within the assignment of FOI to present alternatives on how to remediate the area and to what extent. In total, the amount of lead in the ground outside buildings on the area is estimated to about 240 tons. The investigation concerning trichloroethylene has been concentrated to the C-factory. The sampling has been focused along cable ditches and floor drains and on locations where chlorated aliphates have been handled. The measurements have included sampling of pore-air, soil and groundwater and contamination was found at one hotspot. Four separate objects have been investigated for oil pollution. The investigation has mainly been performed by drilling and analyses of soil have been made with a PID-instrument and complementary analyses in the laboratory. The oil investigations show that any remediation measures are not necessary at the the investigated objects.
