Abstract
This report presents computations of the flowfield around a surface ship including some flow induced signature aspects. The hull used for the computations is the DTMB5415 model hull, which is an internationally accepted validation test case for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). It is an early pre-study model for the Arleigh-Burke class destroyer, currently deployed in the US Navy. The flowfield including the water surface is computed using Large Eddy Simulation (LES) and Volume Of Fluid (VOF) techniques in a finite volume framework. The flow field, pressure field, Kelvin waves, turbulence, flow induced electromagnetic and electric signatures, as well as air-bubbles and flow induced noise are discussed.
