Abstract

This report presents testing of a protective blast door in scale 1:2, designed by The National Fortifications Administration and named "Medium heavy Protective Door" with pressure class 0,5 MPa. The testing includes two parts. A / Verifying of the function of the new door after loads from air blasts with short duration. B / Recording of forces between door leaf and jamb caused by the air blast. The most interesting part is the rebound effect and the forces, which are needed to keep the door leaf in position during the whole oscillating process. The testing finished with one test in which the dynamic characteristic of the door leaf was drastically changed by increasing the weight of the door leaf with around 100 lbs, almost a doubling of the original weight. The Swedish Defence Research Agency performed the testing and wrote this report, which is the basis for a consulting company Carl Bro AB who makes the evaluation and a computer code for calculation of the rebound effects.
