Abstract
Together with the companion report "Electronic Warfare against NCW / NEC, result overview part B: Theory and Method", the present report provides an overview of the achieved results within the FOI Defence Analysis project "Electronic Warfare against NCW / NEC networks" during the years 2003 - 2005. Based on an introductory literature survey, the project has provided a theoretical foundation for a more quantitative analysis of large NCW / NEC based defence systems, especially when such defence systems are subject to information warfare via electronic warfare attacks. As new analysis tools the project has introduced concepts and results from communication theory, signal processing, detection theory and perception psychology, and used these tools to analyse an air defence system as a representative subset of a network centric national defence. This analysis, supported by a performed field test, shows that the conventional intuitive analysis approach is insufficient, especially at large scales. A reference list comprising other relevant project reports is also provided.
