Abstract

This report summarises FOI´s 2005 activities within the research area "Support to Assessment, Evaluation and Analysis", which is linked to the Swedish Armed Forces taskings (to FOI) covering Direct OA Support and Assessment and Method Development. The former task is carried out using Operational Research groups placed within the Swedish Armed Forces HQ, and the latter task is carried out using project teams based at FOI. The Operational Research groups have supported long term planning, strategic and operational planning, tactical development and also force concept development. The FoRMA project has provided additional analytical support to long term planning, including producing scenarios describing possible future global developments. The OA Methods project has supported the OR groups with development and evaluation of models and methods, with the aim of meeting immediate and long term needs. The Principles of Management project has studied organisational and management concepts and processes with particular focus on the new organisation of the Swedish Armed Forces HQ. The Swedish Armed Forces benefits from the research within the research area Assessment and Operational Research mainly through its planning and decision support function. Research area funding in 2005 totalled 43.1 MSEK, of which 31.1 MSEK covered the Operational Research groups.
