Abstract

An "Evaluation of Conditions of and Demands for Health and Environmental Monitoring Teams including an Evaluation of the British EMT and the Canadian DHHAT, respectively" constitutes a part of the Swedish Armed Forces commission - "MedUnd" - given to FOI. This report gives an account of the mentioned evaluation comprising, among other things, results from the visits paid to occupational health/environmental monitoring teams in the UK, Canada, the Netherlands and USA in 2004-2005. The investigation concludes that Sweden has all the requirements to establish a unique helath and environmental monitoring team having capacity and competence equal to the international ones. A future Swedish Environmental Monitoring Team, EMT, must be put together thus enabling cooperation with/support to other nations and the UN. The demand is being further updated following a recent stipulated NATO/EAPC policy regarding EIH. In addition to the support that the Swedish Armed Forces receives from FOI within the areas of environment and work environment, orther actors in Sweden dealing with these issues must be taken into account. The necessity of a certain overlapping arises, since it accentuates the importance of establishing a close cooperation with, and an information exchange between the different groupings.
