Abstract
Reflection properties of vanadium dioxide (VO2) in the IR-region has been studied for many years and are well known. Vanadium dioxide is a thermochromic material that undergoes a semiconductor to metal phase transition, in the IR-region, around 68°C. This report presents experimental results of the reflection properties for vanadium dioxide in the microwave region. Microwave properties of vanadium dioxide has not been studied before. A significant change in the reflection coefficient was observed when the material was heated. Futher studies will show if vanadium dioxide is a potential candidate as a material in different defence applications, for example switchable radomes.
