Abstract

As part of the trilateral defence environment cooperation between the Swedish Armed Forces, the Ministry of Defence of Estonia and the Ministry of Defence of Georgia, an environmental study has been conducted at the Vaziane base close to Tblisi in Georgia. This report presents the findings from an ocular inspection of the environment and the military constructions within the Vaziane base area, performed on march 14 and 15, 2006. Along with the garage and vehicle depot, closed warehouses for chemicals, the rifle shooting range, the shut-down air field, the depot for delapidated vehicles were inspected during the tour of the base. The aim of the ocular inspection of the base was to assess whether the military activities negatively affected the environment and, too, whether there were any hot spots of dangerous remains of military origin.
