Abstract
Commissioned by the Swedish Armed Forces, the Network-based Modeling and Simulation, NetSim, project was initiated in 2004. The overall goal of the project was to investigate and develop methods and techniques to support utilisation of modelling and simulation (M&S) as an efficient tool/method within the Network Centric Defence. In these activities, focus has been on issues such as computer based collaboration for M&S, distributed resource repositories, security architectures for Network-based Modeling and Simulation, distributed model execution, and component-based M&S. During the first year, the project aimed at designing a service oriented architecture for NBMS. The architecture is meant to be used for the storage, design, documentation, execution and analysis of network based simulation models, all secured activities. During 2005 a prototype of the proposed architecture was developed. The focus of this year´s activities was on developing a scenario in order to evaluate and demonstrate the feasibility and relevance of the architecture and identified services. The evaluation was successfully carried through. This report describes the work, the issues that have been dealt with during the last year, and the results of the evaluation. Furthermore, quality assurance activities, such as conference publications and collaborations with other research organizations are presented.
