Abstract

This report presents the work that has been done in purpose of developing a method of measurement to assess the injury risk from the type of non-lethal weapons normally referred to as blunt impact weapons. The selected approach was to develop a surrogate thorax that is biofidelic at impact conditions representative for this category of weapons. The developed surrogate thorax is based on the design of a Canadian surrogate thorax. The report presents the design and the ballistic experimental testing preformed to evaluate the biomechanical properties of the thorax. The impact dynamics have also been studied with numerical simulations, this work is also presented.
