Abstract
An investigation of the concept of semantic interoperability has been done within the FOI project DCMF- Defence Conceptual Modelling Framework. Basically semantic interoperability deals with avoiding misunderstanding, and the purpose of this investigation is to understand how conceptual modelling can contribute to improve this kind of interoperability. In this report we give a brief overview of the research subject, semantic interoperability, and look into an architecture which can support it. The architecture is based on that a system with communicating actors should have access to a shared conceptualization of the domain of interest, called ontology. Further expansion of the architecture is also proposed to make measurement of the system possible. Based on these measurements, possibilities for improvements of the communicated system can be noticed.
