Abstract

During technical evaluation of ballistic protective structures or materials it is of great importance that the alternatives can be compared in a consistent and reliable manner. The reasons for this study is to create a Swedish test standard for evaluation of ballistic protection and ammunition are several and may be outlined as: Consolidation - Collect chosen parts of relevant standards in one document. Translation - Minimising the risk of language related mistakes. Increased quality - Higher demands on experimental methodology, (measuring projectile yaw et cetera), documentation and statistical treatment of the results (error estimations, confidence intervals et cetera). Co-ordination - Uniform procedures throughout FOI, other defence authorities and industries. One of the goals with the introduction of a standardised procedure for ballistic limit velocity test is to facilitate comparisons between tests preformed at different occasions. To make these comparisons relevant, projectiles, fragment simulators and protective structures must be documented well enough to avoid confusion.
