Abstract
The work on developing ADN (ammonium dinitramide) -propellants as replacement for existing propellants for missile propulsion is reported on. A method for evaluating the burning rate from rocket motor firing tests has been developed. The objective is to get more information from less rocket motor firing tests. A computational code for interior ballistics in rocket motors has been extensively revised and improved. To extend the knowledge concerning rocket motor technology at FOI, a person has been sent to a three-day course in USA. A plasma generator developed at FOI to be used for research concerning electrothermal ignition (ETI) of LOVA-propellants has been tested. A computor code for simulation of the plasma ignition process has been developed. This model will be compared and calibrated against experiments. When the model is calibrated it will be used for generating suitable parameters for the capillary, nozzle and electrical parameters for ETI-experiments. The international technical developments and research trends in the areas of propulsion and launching are also reported on.
