Abstract

One aim for the project Flexible Weapon and Protection System is to develop the capacity within FOI to assess and evaluate weapon and protection systems on the system level. Another aim is to gather the competences from different parts of the FOI organisation into one project on Weapon- and Protection system level. One goal with the work is to develop methods and tools to be able to study, simulate, evaluate and assess different weapon and protection systems. Another goal for the project is to suggest suitable technical solutions for precision engagement, gradable effects, intelligent munitions and protections systems. The purpose with the project is that FOI can support the Swedish Armed Forces with decisions on procurement of weapon a protection systems. The project is a three year project with starting year 2008 and with ending year 2010. This report describes the project work during 2008 regarding: Methods and tools for systems evaluation has been directed to the studies of different tools and environments for the assessments of weapon and protection systems on systems level, to integrate data from supporting levels into a systems level simulator and to study different solutions with simulations. Flexible Weapons Systems has been directed to further develop the capacity to assess and evaluate weapon systems and to support the development of Precision Guided Mortar Munitions regarding answers to design questions. Flexible Protection Systems has been directed to make an inventory of protection systems and technology, to start the production of scenarios and to start the development of evaluation tools.
