Abstract

This report summarises FOI`s 2008 activities within the research area "Support to Assessment, Evaluation and Analysis", which is linked to the two Swedish Armed Forces taskings (to FOI) covering "Direct OA Support and OA Methods" and "FOI support to Long Term Planning 2008-FoRMA". The former task is carried out using Operational Analysis groups placed within the Swedish Armed Forces HQ and the latter tasks including "OA Methods" (OAM) are carried out using project teams at FOI. The Operational Analysis (OA) groups have supported long term planning, strategic and operational planning, force concept development, exercises and missions. The "OAM" project has supported the OA-groups with development and evaluation of models and methods, with the aim of meeting immediate and long term needs. The "Support to Long Term Planning 2008 - FoRMA" project has during 2008 provided additional analytical support to long term planning. The Swedish Armed Forces benefits from the research within the research area Assessment and Operational Analysis mainly through its planning and decision support function. Research area funding in 2008 totalled SEK 55,8 million, of which SEK 36,8 million covered the Operational Analysis groups.
